Disaster relief for Hurricane IRENE

Our brothers in Haiti affected by the earthquake, cholera, hurricane Thomas,  Tropical Storm Emily and now the rains from Hurricane IRENE need your help today.

 

As you can see on our projected path map below, Irene is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher on Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale) by early Wednesday as it tracks in the direction of the Bahamas on a path towards the East Coast of the U.S. Friday into the weekend.

ALERTE ROUGE par rapport aux conditions de cyclone du Plan National de Gestion des Risques et des Désastres(PNGRD)

La tempête tropicale EMILY continue son évolution en direction ouest nord-ouest en mettant le cap vers l’ile Hispaniola.

En effet, à 08 heures am le centre de la tempête tropicale EMILY a été localisé à 16.6 degrés de latitude nord et 69.0 degrés de longitude ouest soit à environ 230 km sud sud-est de Santo Domingo ou à environ 390 km sud-est de la ville de Jacmel ou 420 km sud-est de la ville de Hinche. Elle se déplace toujours en direction ouest nord-ouest à 22km/h. La dernière position de trajectoire montre que le centre d’EMILY devrait traverser Hispaniola tard mercredi pour se retrouver sur la portion sud-est des Bahamas jeudi. Compte tenu des conditions evironnementales, un léger renforcement est toujours possible avant que le centre d’EMILY ait pu atteindre les reliefs d’Hispaniola. De même qu’un léger affaiblissement reste possible une fois que le système touche la terre ferme. Les vents max soufflent toujours à 85 km/h avec des rafales bien plus supérieures. La pression centrale est estimée à 1005 millibars vents.

EMILY est prévue de produire entre 100 à 150 millimètres de pluie sur les plaines de la République Dominicaine et Haïti avec des excédents de précipitations sur les reliefs.

En conséquence, le SPGRD maintient ce mercredi 03 août 2011 le niveau de vigilance rouge du Plan National de Gestion des Risques et des Désastres (PNGRD) (i.e. risque d’impact d’intensité violent à extrême) face aux menaces persistantes de fortes pluies, de coup de vent, avec risques d’éboulements, de glissement de terrain et d’inondations d’intensité rouge notamment pour les départements du Sud, du sud-est, de la Grand-Anse, des Nippes, de l’ouest, du centre, de l’artibonite et les régions nord d’Haïti.

Le CNM de concert avec le SPGRD, DPC et la SEMANAH interdit les opérations de cabotages sur toute la côte sud d’Haïti à partir de ce mercredi 03 aout 2011 jusqu’à nouvel ordre.

America Continental 2000 Accepting Donated Building Materials, Equipment and Tools for Haiti Relief

Delray Beach, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In response to the overwhelming need that has developed following the recent earthquake in Haiti, America Continental 2000 is accepting donated building materials, equipment, tools and volunteer efforts at its main receiving location to help those affected by this catastrophic natural disaster.

Through an alliance with FENACO (Federation of Constructors in the Dominican Republic) and CODIA (Dominican National College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors) American Continental 2000 will be equipped to:

  • Provide equipment, materials, consulting and general evaluation by the request of any Federal, State or local agency. Our engineers and volunteers will provide a wide range of engineering services all aimed at restoring the infrastructure affected by natural disasters.
  • Accept donations from other smaller scale collections sites in Broward and Palm Beach Florida counties. America Continental 2000 is equipped to sort and categorize collected items and arrange for their direct transport to Haiti.

Customers and concerned individuals can come to our main receiving location to make a tax-deductible donation and to drop off items that need transport to Haiti.
